Over-sink rack
A rack that spans the sink to dry dishes or hold a cutting board, turning unused space above the basin into work area.
An over-sink rack rests on the rim of the sink itself, using the empty air above the basin as either a drying rack for dishes or a stable platform for a cutting board or colander. In a kitchen with no separate counter space next to the sink, this is often the only place to dry a full load of dishes without them taking over the stove or table.
Most designs are adjustable, with telescoping arms that expand to fit different sink widths, so measure the sink's outer edge to edge distance before buying rather than guessing. Some racks fold flat for storage between uses, which matters if the sink also needs to be usable for washing produce or filling large pots.
A common issue is water pooling on one side of a rack that is not level, which can drip onto the counter instead of back into the sink. Weight capacity is another thing people skip checking, since a rack rated for a light dish drainer will sag or tip under a stack of heavy pots and pans.
