Everything here depends on one measurement most buyers skip: the outside width of your sink at the rim, edge to edge, including whatever the board has to clear at the faucet deck. These boards span roughly 11 to 22 inches, and a board an inch short of that span either rocks or drops in, which makes it more dangerous than an ordinary board on the counter. Extendable models with sliding end rails cover a range instead of a single size and are the safer choice in a rented kitchen you will eventually leave, and fixed or adjustable, the board needs a lip, cleat, or non-slip foot so it cannot creep toward you while you push a knife away. The built-in colander is the second decision. A collapsible silicone strainer folds flat and stores with the board, which is the entire point of the design, while a rigid basket drains faster and takes up as much cabinet space as a separate colander would have. Material comes down to maintenance: bamboo is kinder to knife edges but wants oiling and hand washing and will crack if it sits wet, and polypropylene goes through the dishwasher and takes bleach after raw chicken. Check thickness at the middle of the span, because a thin board flexes under a squash even when the width is right.
